Bangkok Shopping : MBK Center

MBK-Center is located on the very busy intersection of Rama I road and Phaya Thai Road. It is however easily reached from the National Stadium skytrain station.

When coming from the National Stadium skytrain, you enter through the Tokyu Department Store. Walking through the department store towards the left you find the way to MBK Center proper. It can be a very busy shopping experience. On the four lowest floors there are hundreds of mostly smaller shops and fastfood outlets. Clearly the environment is not as fancy as what can be found at Central Department Stores, Siam Paragon or Emporium Shopping Complex. But this is the shopping center that attracts the most visitors in Bangkok, while catering mostly to middle class customers.

You can find whatever you are looking for : fashionable cloths, leather, jewelry and gold, electronics. The shops are mostly small, and it somewhat looks like a covered 'market' place.

You will be impressed by the abundance of mobile phone sellers on the fourth floor. MBK Center is the place also, where people go to have their mobile phones 'fixed'. If you have some equipment (like smartphones that are not yet released on the Thai market), you can have them adapted here, so they are suitable to use.

On the fifth floor there is something altogether different. It is occupied by larger outlets, selling both home and office furniture. Most of the furniture sold is not really up-market. Our favorite is the Apina shop, which seems to offer fancy wooden furniture at reasonable prices. On this floor there is also a large Index Living Mall store. Here you can find almost anything you may want to decorate your home with, besides bedrooms, kitchens, tables and chairs etc.

SF Cinema City MBK Center operates multiple movie theatres on the seventh floor. Bowling and karaoke are also available on the upper floors.

MBK Center has two connections with the skytrain. You can come from the National Stadium, or you can take the walkway from the Siam Square stadium, and enter into MBK Center directly.
