Amnat Charoen

Amnat Charoen, 583 kilometers from Bangkok, is a recently established province upgraded from Amphoe Amnat Charoen of Ubon Ratchathani Province in 1993. Known as the Land of Dharma, Amnat Charoen is famous for its scenic views, especially where the Khong River forms the borderline.

 

What to see and what to do in Amnat Charoen?

 

Phra Mongkhon Ming Muang and Phuttha Utthayan Khao Dan Phra Bat are located 3 kilometers from town on the left side of Highway 212. This Buddhist sanctuary, built amidst green trees, houses a golden mosaic tiled Buddha image in the attitude of Subduing Mara. It is a very beautiful Buddha image which was designed by Chit Buabut and cast in 1965.

Phuttha Utthayan Reservoir
Three kilometers away from town, this huge reservoir offers a beautiful scenery. It is an ideal place to visit with resorts and food shops scattered all around.

Wat Tham Saeng Phet is a sanctuary and the school of Phra Achan Cha Suphattho. It is about 10 kms from town, on Amnat Charoen-Khemmarat Road and two kms on a side road before the end of the highway. The large temple area consists of the hilltop chapel with a principal Buddha image. The temple is set amidst rocks which reflect the light and sparkle like diamonds. Many different nationalities come here for meditation.

Wat Phra Lao Thep Nimit is on Highway 2049 about 2 Kilometres from Amphoe Phana center. Phra Lao Thep Nimit, an ancient Buddha image, is the housed in the beautiful ordination hall built in authentic Northeastern style and is about 200 years old. The principal sacred Buddha image, in the attitude of Subduing Mara, is lacquered and gilded with gold.

Don Chao Pu Forest Park is a forest near Amphoe Phana with many kinds of trees that are over 100 years old. This shady,quiet forest is the habitat for a large number of monkeys.
